Colorado offers 4x4 enthusiasts some of the best off-road terrain in the country, and many of the best spots in the state are just a short drive from Denver. If you are looking for a new trail to explore with your new gear from Toytec, check out one of these unforgettable off-road trails near Denver.

Switzerland Trail

This trail is located outside Boulder and offers riders an unforgettable experience full of mountain vistas, abandoned mines, and groves of aspen and conifer forests. It was originally a railroad line, so the road is moderate throughout most of the trail. It is a perfect place for those new to off-roading or those just looking to enjoy a beautiful drive in their 4x4 vehicle.

Slaughterhouse Gulch

This beautiful drive is located just outside Denver and can be found up highway 285 near the town of Bailey. This trail features narrow roads, tight trees, and fields of wildflowers. This trail features an 11-mile loop that is perfect for those with slight modifications made to their off-road vehicle. It is a popular site that gets less snow than the surrounding mountains giving it a longer season than other trails found across Colorado.

Bill Moore Lake

This trail located in Arapahoe National Forest offers amazing alpine scenery and is great for those new to off-road trails as well as seasoned riders. Located just outside of Empire, this trail is easy to access from just a short drive up I-70. The Bill Moore Lake is found at the peak of the Empire 4X4 Loop and offers stunning views of a beautiful lake found right at the tree line. Due to the high elevation, the road may still have snow on it through late June. It is one of our favorite ohv trails near Denver!

Yankee Hill

Located just outside Central City, this trail can be accessed by a short drive up I-70. This challenging road offers amazing views of St. Mary’s Glacier and the surrounding Front Range. It’s a short rocky trail, but worth the trek for the views it delivers. The best part is the sprawling network of trails in the surrounding area that will keep you entertained all day long!

Middle Saint Vrain Trail

This scenic trail is located just a short drive up Highway 7 near Lyons. This challenging trail features large rocks and deep creek crossings that can challenge even experienced drivers. For those looking for less crowded off-road trails near Denver, this trail is perfect for you. With its deep river crossings and rocky path, many stock vehicles won’t make it too far before needing to turn around.
